Introduction to Recording Arts
APIS is the only international school in Seoul to have a fully functioning recording studio. In the introductory class, students learn the basics of sound recording and music production using professional recording equipment and software such as Pro Tools. Students work collaboratively in small groups and with partners on a variety of projects such as Christmas songs, international pop songs, and raps. Other topics covered in the intro class are beat making and sound design. Students need not have a background in music to take the course; however, it is helpful. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to gain skills in, and an appreciation for, the art and craft of sound production.
Advanced Recording Arts
Advanced Recording Arts is intended to follow the Introduction to Recording Arts class. As such it builds on the knowledge and skills students developed in the prerequisite class. The advanced class is largely project-based, meaning students will create a proposal for the type of product they want to produce and, working collaboratively with the teacher, come up with a learning plan that helps them achieve their goal. For example, a student with a background in computer programming and gaming might propose writing code for a video game and using Pro Tools software to record the sound effects and music to accompany gameplay. The ideal candidate for the Advanced Recording Arts class has a background in music/sound recording, is self-motivated, and has a creative vision.
